Newsletter 1 From: Lucas the Bear
Lucas has been happily frolicking around and, having discovered the concept of an 'Official Photo', decided he ought to release one too (see attached). We've tried telling him that only the Queen is supposed to do that but you know how obstinate a small bear can be when his mind is made up. Meanwhile the footie is still on and Da Bearz have their own World Cup pool in which Lucas has drawn Argentina - the others suspect A Fix [tm]. He will be incommunicado on Friday (assuming he can find communicado on the map by then). One last note - after the fiasco with the last Yahoo card Lucas tried sending (that Arsenal strip looked really cool too) he got fed up and waddled off to a new service. Lucas was getting his photo taken with some of the guests at JediCon last weekend when one of them (who will remain nameless since he is on this mailing list) asked if he had ever considered nude modelling. Naturally Lucas was very intrigued by this and headed home innocently eager to take ursine imagery to depths previously unknown to bearkind. Eager that is, until Barney and some other senior members of the North Dagenham massive eventually explained exactly what "Noodittie" meant. Unfortunately by then Cecil B. had already set up the camera and it was too late to back out. So a rather shocked Lucas had to go through with it (albeit with one small compromise). At Cecil's insistence, a sample of this shameful act of ursine depravity is attached. Enjoy, but keep it away from the children (and grandchildren). This is so embarrassing.... Newsletter 3 From: Lucas the Bear Greetings Friend of the Fur ...And so the clocks have gone back, the nights are drawing in and Ursine thoughts lightly turn to ways of dodging hibernation (so they can spend the winter endlessly watching Xena on DVD). Meanwhile Lucas is in shock. A few weeks ago I let him stay up to watch The Empire Strikes Back [Special Edition] on TV since it features one of his favourite actors. Unfortunately I forgot to warn him about one small plot detail. Consequently, twenty minutes into the film, there was a small panicked tug at my sleeve: "Mr M....M....Michael just g...g...got STRANGLED by D...D..Darth Vader!!!!" Have you any idea how hard it is to explain the concept of Reality to a Teddy Bear????? On a more positive note, Bearz love Halloween, or more specifically Trick or Treating since it offers a chance to demand honey with menaces. It also means yet another Seasonal Card. *Two* cards in fact since, while many Friends of the Fur will be out celebrating Halloween tomorrow night, just as many will be celebrating Samhain. So please find attached yet another instalment in the tale of a small bear's quest for dignity....and women (mostly women actually) together with a more sober card modelled by Lucas Bear's stand-in Lionel. Newsletter 4From: Carol Naylor Greetings Friend of the Fur
As usual December's been a busy time for Da Bearz. They've written, directed, produced and starred in their annual Christmas special video and are pretty tuckered out as a result ("please make them hibernate now, oh please make them hibernate now"). Yes, I know it's a bit pretentious but at least it's made him forget his plans for taking up an extreme sport. Tiddlywinks would have been OK but marbles - with the ever-present danger of concussion - was pushing the envelope just a little too far. So here's hoping that everyone has a Cool Yule, A Merry Christmas, A Happy Hanukah and a wonderful New Year. Da Bearz will be taking a break over the holiday period but normal (?) services will be resumed in 2003. Enjoy Carol
