The Ursine in the spotlight is George - the cool dude
In truth George comes from Brighton pier where he was spotted languishing on a stall at a Bear Fair. A daring daylight raid was executed by the Hug armed only with moMMi's chequebook - although the project was almost doomed until George revealed a hidden talent for signature forgery. Today, George is a popular member of the hug. Admired by the younger
bears for his suave good looks and flamboyant dress sense, he also has
an interesting singing voice (a sort of growling bear-itone), and after
a few brews is always willing to lead the hug in a few choruses of "A
Wizard's Stick has a Knob on the end". He is also widely respected
for the way he has refused to concede to an unfortunate handicap - he
is tone deaf.
Always a sociable bear, George quickly befriended Opie, Penguin interloper
and Hug outcast. Together they form the singing duo "The Blues
Bearz" - although nearly all the singing is done by George (Opie
just keeps time by slapping his wings together and humming quietly).
To date they have produced cover versions of Simon Smith and his
Amazing Dancing Bear and Send in the Growls. They hope to
expand into a BarBearshop quartet later this year.
