She tests Xena's commitment by having her almost lose an arm in her quest to find out how to she must free Prometheus.
I know there's an 'armless' joke in here somewhere - I'm just not going to make it...
On a side note, picture the scene - Xena and Gabby are heading towards the oracle and Gab - quite reasonably - asks Xena how she knows what to do in these circumstances. Xena tells her "A Friend told me".
Think about it - we know the 'friend' is Herc - and we've got a rough idea of how much/little time those two have spent together. Doesn't it seem odd to anyone else that, of all the things he could have told her, he actually said "*IF* Prometheus is ever ensnared by Hera here's what you gotta do.."
